Job Description
SUMMARY: As an important member of the Patient Service Team, Patient Service Representatives provide valuable customer service to our patients in the area of pre-registration, greeting, registration and telephone service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Greets patients as they arrive for scheduled appointments, obtains demographic and insurance information for new and established patients and gives appropriate paper work to be completed.
- Updates the pre-registration/registration information in EPIC computer system.
- Welcomes on-site visitors, determines nature of business and announces visitors to appropriate personnel.
- Informs Clinical Service Team of patient arrivals when ready for visit to proceed.
- Collects payments for copayments and account balances at time of service, providing patients with an appropriate paper or electronic receipt.
- Reviews financial policies with patients and obtains appropriate signatures for assignment of benefits and release of records.
- Gathers insurance referral information from all patients.
- Answers back up incoming telephone calls, determines purpose of callers, and forwards call to appropriate personnel.
- Schedules follow up appointments as need for patients leaving the office when necessary.

- Performs office opening/closing procedures daily depending upon schedule.
- Supplies information to callers about our facility and doctors, including appointment verification.
- Be able to interact and communicate with other departments ensuring a positive experience for the patient.
- Acquires and maintains knowledge of HIPAA privacy requirements as it relates to job duties.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Medical terminology and health insurance background helpful. Experience dealing face to face with the public is essential. Epic EHR experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Candidate must be able to work at a fast paced reception desk with frequent changes in position: sitting, standing and delivering charts. Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
