Orthobiologics Q & A
What are Orthobiologics?
Orthobiologics use substances naturally found in the body (“biologics”) to enhance the healing process for orthopedic (“ortho”) conditions. During a simple office procedure, your provider collects and concentrates cells from your body, then injects them into injured tissues to promote repair and reduce pain.
What are the benefits of Orthobiologics?
Orthobiologics at NeuroSpine Center of Wisconsin offer several key benefits:
Accelerated healing: Promotes the body’s natural repair process
Reduced pain: Alleviates discomfort associated with arthritis and tissue injury
Minimally invasive: Image-guided, non-surgical injections with little downtime
Improved function: Supports better mobility and musculoskeletal health
Reduced inflammation: Targets sources of chronic irritation
What types of Orthobiologic treatments are available?
At NeuroSpine Center of Wisconsin, Dr. Jared Greenberg performs the following orthobiologic procedures:
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP):
Platelets are a natural source of dozens of growth factors that initiate and accelerate tissue repair. By concentrating platelets from a patient’s own blood, PRP stimulates robust healing responses when injected into damaged tissues, helping reduce pain and restore function.
Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M):
A2M is a naturally occurring protein that blocks enzymes responsible for cartilage breakdown in arthritis. Once concentrated from a patient’s blood, A2M injections slow the progression of arthritis, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue repair.
Lipogems®:
Using adipose (fat) tissue rich in reparative mesenchymal signaling cells (MSCs), the FDA-cleared Lipogems system processes fat harvested through a minimally invasive technique. The result is an injectable tissue product that cushions and supports the repair of arthritic or injured areas.

Regenokine® Program:
The Regenokine® Program is a personalized treatment that uses autologous conditioned serum (ACS) — the patient’s own blood processed to isolate proteins, growth factors, and cytokines with strong anti-inflammatory and restorative properties. Injections can target painful joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles, or the spine.

When might Orthobiologics be recommended?
Orthobiologics may be used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:
Arthritis (knee, hip, shoulder, and more)
Herniated discs and degenerative disc disease
Sciatica or radiculopathy
Sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction
Tendonitis or bursitis (rotator cuff, tennis elbow, hip bursitis, etc.)
Meniscus or labral tears
Muscle or tendon strains
Ligament sprains
What does the treatment process involve?
Orthobiologic treatment typically includes:
Consultation with Dr. Greenberg – Review of medical history, condition, and recommended therapy
Preparation – Blood draw and processing (same day for PRP or A2M; at least 24 hours prior for Regenokine®); fat harvest and processing for Lipogems®
Injection – Image-guided delivery of the orthobiologic into the affected area(s)
Post-procedural care – Recovery recommendations, with follow-up visits (in person or virtual) at approximately 6 and 12 weeks
